Tunnel Hill Challenge

Welcome to The Tunnel Hill Challenge!

The Tunnel Hill Challenge is a free adventure challenge by Friends of the Tunnel Hill State Trail, where you can visit 8 trailheads along the Tunnel Hill State Trail in Southern Illinois and take pictures of the challenge signs in order to win a challenge sticker. This challenge is free to everyone, whether you bike, run, hike, or even just drive to each trailhead.

Tunnel Hill Challenge Rules:

The Rules of Tunnel Hill Challenge are really simple:

  1. Visit at least 4 out of the 8 trailheads and take a photo of the challenge sign on the information kiosk. You’re encouraged to visit all 8, as each sign features a cool photo and the area’s history. You don’t have to take a selfie with the sign, but you do have to take a photo of it. Phone photos are encouraged.
  2. Visit the Vienna Welcome Center/Foreman Depot Museum and show the worker your photos to get your free sticker. Vienna City Park. Big bike next to it.
  3. If you can’t make it to get your sticker, we can mail it to you. Email us at challenge@tunnelhillfriends.org for more information. US-only. We recommend going to the depot museum in Vienna instead, as there is a lot to see.
  4. You don’t have to do the challenge in one day. You can complete it at any time you wish, whether in one day or over a few months.
  5. You can bike to each challenge sign, run to it, hike to it, or even drive to it. This challenge is for everyone.

Do this challenge every year because the sign and sticker will change each year we have it!

Tunnel Hill Challenge Sticker:

This year’s sticker is shown on the right of this text. It can be put on a car and does well in most weather. You could also put it on your water bottle, bike, cooler, or laptop. Please note that to ensure everyone can receive a sticker, we limit stickers to one per challenge participant.

Thank you for taking the challenge! Be sure to invite a friend!
